Twitter #sfbookclub 02 – the polls are open!

1

I’m pleased to report that the first Twitter #sfbookclub was a resounding success, with several readers putting forth some very astute observations and commentary on Joe Haldeman’s The Forever War.

So, let’s keep a good thing going. Based on the way things went last time, I’ve introduced a couple changes to this iteration. First, I’m going to make things slightly more democratic by introducing an oficial polling system to select the book, though The Forever War seemed to be a unanimous decision last time around. Second, it seemed as though everyone said what they needed to say within the first few days of the discussion, so I’ve reduced the discussion window from a week to four days, from Friday through the following Monday. This should give everyone a chance to participate, regardless of whether they tweet from home or from work.

To cut down on repetition in future posts, I’ve created a static #sfbookclub page outlining the concept and the process.

With no further ado, here’s the poll for the second Twitter #sfbookclub. Some of these were suggested to me by fellow Twitter users, while others are books I’ve been meaning to read or re-read, which is a bit selfish of me, I know. Hey, no democracy is perfect.

Which book shall we read for the second #sfbookclub

  • Robert Charles Wilson - Spin (via @adribbleofink) (50%, 5 Votes)
  • Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman - Good Omens (30%, 3 Votes)
  • Philip José Farmer - To Your Scattered Bodies Go (20%, 2 Votes)
  • Jenna Black - Devil Inside (via @kimidreams) (0%, 0 Votes)

Total Voters: 10

I’m sad I missed the book discussion completely. I meant to have The Forever War read in time and then I spaced it. But I voted and next time, I want to participate!
